Why You Need a Virtualized Workflow for your Corporate Productions

In the last few years, the benefits of NDI workflows have started to make an impression on corporate production teams. By integrating NDI systems and a CAT-6 network topology, the transition to NDI has helped companies reduce the amount of HD-SDI cable runs between their control rooms and auditoriums as well as allow them to easily route video and audio signals to and from any studio and control room.

Haven’t heard of NDI? Network Device Interface (NDI) is an open protocol for Video over IP developed to distribute frame-accurate, high quality, low latency video and audio through an IP network that is suitable for live broadcast environments.

Now that Covid-19 has made it necessary for all-staff company meetings, conferences, and CEO announcements to be done online, NDI has proven to be uniquely suited at doing high-quality remote productions. As many corporate producers have experienced, using online web streaming platforms like Zoom does not offer a lot of control over switching camera shots and adding graphics. With an NDI virtualized cloud workflow, the production team and presenters can be in remote locations, and still do live productions that maintain the high production values they were accustomed to at their company facilities.

There are two popular approaches to doing remote live productions using NDI. One approach is to leverage existing on-premise video control rooms and operating the equipment remotely. The second is to completely virtualize live video production systems into the Cloud. This includes installing software-based production tools hosted in Cloud services such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. One distinct advantage of virtualizing media production in the Cloud is that events can take place anywhere and be produced from anywhere.

Check out the brief video below to learn more about how a virtualized remote production solution would work.

To better determine if an NDI virtualized workflow would benefit your company, take a moment to answer the following questions.

• Do you currently have media/video production staff that need to produce live events while working remotely?
• Do your company meetings/events require higher production values than what platforms such as Zoom and Teams offer?
• Does your company have multiple event/conference spaces across several campuses?
• Do you have media staff that needs to edit video remotely?
• Do you have on-premise shared video content and asset management storage?
• Do you have any initiatives to start virtualizing software applications either on-premise or in the Cloud?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, your company would benefit from NDI and virtualized corporate productions. Please contact us for more information, demonstrations, and proof of concepts at info@alphavideo.com
