At-Home Editing – The New Normal

by Jul 14, 2020CMMA Blog0 comments

The COVID-19 virus has caused unprecedented challenges for broadcast, production, and media companies. This is at a time when media consumption has hit record levels due to viewers being grounded at home with insatiable needs for news and entertainment content. Alpha Video offers a number of NDI-based solutions that provide remote workflows for production staff that will help keep the content flowing while allowing employees to stay safe at home.

Remote Post-Production Workflow

CHALLENGE:
Editors are using remote desktop via laptop/home PC’s to access in-facility craft edit bays and SAN content. Remote desktop applications lack high quality/full frame rate video preview and suffer from limited audio support.

SOLUTION:
Sienna NDI Remote Monitor directly streams high quality/low latency NDI video from the on-premise craft edit system to the remote user. This NDI video can be viewed on the editor’s laptop via the free NDI Monitor applications for Mac/Windows, or streams to the user’s home Apple TV connected to their television via a $99 tvOS app. If available, a broadcast color grading SDI monitor could be used at home by using various NDI to HD-SDI converters such as Magewell, BirdDog, Kiloview, and NewTek Spark.
